SOMETHING I JUST DISCOVERED
I love writing about fashion and style because I get to share my passion, learnings, mistakes, tips and tricks with you. This also includes sharing discoveries that make our lives so much easier! At home, I’m a neat freak living with three males (1 husband, 2 boys). This means I’m forever cleaning, pottering, wiping, and let’s be honest, raising my voice (often). So, with that, and work, and family, and exercise, etc, I’m time poor and sometimes frazzled.
Now, my neatness does not extend to ironing. I’ll avoid it at all costs. I find it boring and it takes up too much time. But my mum (bless her and sorry ladies, I won’t share her!), can’t stand the thought of us all wearing creased and crumpled clothes. So, once a week she comes over to iron a few baskets of clothes: she says she finds it relaxing! But in a typical week, I go through way more clothes than mum can iron and then you’ll catch me wearing something crushed and creased…and trying to avoid running into mum.
So, when I discovered you can now get a hand held steamer that is super lightweight, compact and just plugs into the wall, taking 45 seconds to heat up, I really, really got excited. Mainly because I’m wearing more shirting and dresses these days, which the ‘dishevelled look’ isn’t very on trend. And as linen fabric plays a key role in summer dressing, this little device will be a life saver!
I don't keep this thing in the laundry next to the hated iron and ironing table, but in my wardrobe so each morning, once I decide what I’m wearing, I can just quickly give the piece of clothing a steam and head out the door. Awesome!
It also works on delicates like silk and georgette dresses, or formal clothing, which means I don’t need to take them to the dry cleaner for a press before wearing them. And I was able to steam my bed linen once my bed was made – yes, yes I’m one of those people that like a perfectly made bed. It’s also compact so it can be packed in your bag and taken on work or holiday trips too.
So, there you go. A household tip I can share which makes getting ready easier and helps you look nicely groomed. Your mum (and my mum) will be impressed.
Russell Hobbs Handheld Steamer RRP $79.95 available at Harvey Norman, Big W, Harris Scarfe, and The Good Guys. But you can buy it ONLINE here.
