WATCH - ESSENTIAL SHOE GUIDE

Why do women have so many pairs of shoes?? I think we all know the answer - but I would much prefer to invest in shoes and handbags than have a wardrobe filled with clothes.

But there are some shoes that are the basis of building a wearable wardrobe that I talk about on today’s video series.

So if you have a wardrobe full of shoes that look pretty, but are collecting dust because they are too hard to wear, here is my list of essentials. Xx

WATCH MY GUIDE TO CHANGING THE ‘DRESS-CODE’ WITH WHAT SHOE YOU WEAR

Starting with the basics first. This guide will help you get longevity out of your wardrobe.

1. The Sneaker (or a few if you have an addiction like me). Most brands are now offering a ‘fashion’ sneaker in their range. Try price conscious, yet very cool brands like Adidas, Veja, Superga. Or designer sneakers like Gucci, Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Chanel…..the list goes on! My tip would be start with all white first, then you can explore other colours.

2. Bootie in black + a fashion colour . Boots aren’t just worn in cooler months, as can we worn as a trans-seasonal option. There is a big movement for the lace up chunky boot style, which may not suit everyone. However you can achieve a similar look with flat or heeled booties. Try brands like Tony Bianco, Public Desire for affordable options. But if you want to invest in a good quality boot my favourite brands are Anine Bing, Stuart Weitzman, Camilla & Marc or high end designer like Christian Louboutin, Valentino or Chanel.

3. Strappy heel or sandal is a way to dress up your outfit in a very minimal, simple way. It can be flat or heeled, black, white or neutral - all are very wearable and a must in your wardrobe. Also can be worn all year around as a dressy shoe option. There are afordable versions of these shoes from many brands as they mimic the designer versions.

4. Chunky sandals ……. the jury is out on these but they are becoming a very popular alternative to a sneaker. You can really buy these shoes at all price points from Chanel ($1,800) to Bassike ($595) to ASOS for ($60), and they look great if worn with slouchy troucers, dresses (long and short) and even with suiting.

5. The classic heel - if you only own one pair of heels make it something like this….but maybe in black and a neutral! Don’t just think they are for workwear or corporate occasions. A pair of these heels with denim and a white shirt is more sexier than a tight black dress! I think it’s best to invest in a good quality brand as you will have these for years, especially if you wear often or occasionally. However you can find classic heels now at all price points but I find the cheaper the brand, the more unbareable they are to wear.

6. The ballet flat - ok I am going to be honest with you but you may not like it. Round toe ballet or flats in general DO NOT LOOK GOOD. In fact they make you look frumpy, chunky and grumpy - women wear them out of comfort without realising how bad they look. So if you don’t believe me - have a good look in the mirror and tell me you don’t look older just by wearing them! But I am aware most women wear them as wearing heels or sneakers doesn’t work for them. And yes they are easy and comfortable - but there is a solution, the pointed toe ballet or flat. These styles elongate your leg, look more refined and elegant. I have found them difficult to find apart from in designer collections however for price pointed ones try Nine West.
